The problem
Every Sunday, I'd spend 3-5 hours scrolling Instagram, Pinterest, and random food blogs trying to find 5 dinners for the week. I needed recipes that:
- My toddler would actually eat (nothing too spicy)
- My wife and I would enjoy (we like flavor!)
- Used equipment I actually own (no sous vide or pasta maker)
- Didn't violate our dietary restrictions
- Introduced us to new cuisines occasionally
- Fit our grocery budget
Finding one recipe that checked all those boxes took 30-45 minutes. Times five meals? That's my entire Sunday afternoon gone.
The "aha" moment
I realized I was asking the same questions every week. The same constraints. The same family preferences. Why was I starting from scratch each time?
What if there was a chef who actually knew my family? Who remembered our preferences, our equipment, our budget? Who could plan a whole week in minutes instead of hours?
Enter Alera
I built Alera as my personal meal planning tool. It knows my family has mixed spice tolerances (toddler vs. adults). It knows we have an Instant Pot. It remembers we loved last week's Japanese curry.
Now I spend 5 minutes on Sunday clicking "Generate Menu" instead of 5 hours hunting for recipes. My family eats better food. I'm learning new cuisines. My grocery bill is lower because ingredients overlap across meals.
Why I'm sharing Alera
If you're drowning in the same weekly meal planning struggle, Alera can help. It has helped my family. Maybe it can help yours too.
I'm not a company. I'm just a parent who solved their own problem and thought others might benefit.
